Kevin Waite

Kevin Waite is an assistant professor of American history at Durham University and the author of West of Slavery: The Southern Dream of a Transcontinental Empire (UNC Press, 2021). With funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, he co-directs a Collaborative Research grant on the life and times of Biddy Mason, a Georgia slave turned Los Angeles real estate entrepreneur. His writing has appeared in The Atlantic, National Geographic, Los Angeles Times,Slate, The New Republic, and The Washington Post, among others.
